CCHCP Launches New Course: Bridging the Gap in Mental Health Interpreting
CCHCP is pleased to announce the launch of a new course for medical interpreters: Bridging the Gap in Mental Health Interpreting! We are excited to offer this 24-hour course as a professional development opportunity for graduates of the 40-hour Bridging the Gap course and other 40-hour medical interpreter trainings.
Since the launch of the 64-hour Bridging the Gap (BTG) course in 2017, which was developed to include interpreting in mental health, we’ve received numerous requests for a stand-alone 24-hour mental health interpreting course. It’s a great milestone for us to now offer this course to medical interpreters. We believe this training will be an excellent addition to our course offerings and a continuing education opportunity.
This training will also help us meet our mission to advance access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health care services by serving the many limited English proficient (LEP) patients experiencing mental illness across the country.
CCHCP would like to thank everyone who contributed to the development of this program, including the textbook and additional mental health glossaries. We could not have made this project happen without the generous time and support of everyone involved.
A pilot version of this course will take place from December 6 – 10, 2021. We plan to offer two more trainings in 2022 as well. More information about the program and upcoming training opportunities can be found on our website. We encourage any interested parties to contact us at bridgingthegap@xculture.org to learn more about the program and how you can participate!
