About the Program

The Cross Cultural Health Care Program (CCHCP) has been providing consulting and assessment services to health care and human services institutions since 1992. We started by working with these institutions by helping them conduct health care needs assessments of the diverse communities they serve. Since then, our consulting services have grown to include doing assessments that help health and human services organizations identify their areas of strength and weakness with staff, patients, and clients around cultural competency.  We work with our clients to create a plan to provide equitable and inclusive services for their clients/patients, as well as create an environment that values the unique cultural differences of their staff.

Our approach is grounded in the seminal work of Dr. Terry L. Cross on the topic of cultural competence in health care.  Dr. Cross wrote: “Cultural competence is a set of congruent behaviors, attitudes and policies that come together in a system or agency, or among professionals that enable effective interactions in a cross-cultural framework.”

What You Can Expect

CCHCP begins by working with an organization to tailor a process meant to meet their needs and specific concerns.  Based both on dialogue and a review of an organization’s stated values, mission statement, policies and practices, CCHCP recommends an appropriate course of action. Through the lens of cultural competency, CCHCP consulting includes:

  • Organizational Assessments
  • Community Listening Sessions & Assessments
  • Survey Design and Analysis
  • DEI Roadmaps & Strategic Planning
  • Design of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy/Statement
  • Customized DEI/Cultural Competency Training Curriculum Development
