About the Program

The Cross Cultural Health Care Program (CCHCP) offers facilitated instruction designed to build the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary for equitable and inclusive care. We believe that all patients and clients of health and human services organizations deserve the best chance at healthy and fulfilling lives.  Therefore, our equity and inclusion training – based on the principles of cultural competency – will help you and your staff address health disparities, bias and microaggressions, and barriers to equitable and inclusive care. Trainings are customized to meet the needs of our clients and can be designed to vary from brief introductory webinars to in-depth, multi-day workshops. We can deliver our trainings in person, virtually, or at your site.  For more information, or to schedule a training for your organization, please contact us at: eiprograms@xculture.org

What You Learn

As a participant in one of our trainings, you will learn tools and resources to build or strengthen cultural competency. You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own cultural and organizational values, and to recognize that cultural and social identity differences create distinctive life experiences which can become challenging to intercultural communication, despite our best intentions. Because good communication is a cornerstone of effective care, CCHCP teaches personal and organizational strategies for mitigating, overcoming, and learning from these challenges.

We take pride in customizing our trainings for maximum relevance and effectiveness to meet the needs of our clients.  Some the training topics we cover are:

  • The Principles of Cultural Competence and Cultural Humility
  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Defined
  • Navigating Bias
  • Addressing Microaggressions
  • Steps to Cultural Competency
  • The Social Determinants of Health
  • Structural Competence in Health Care
  • Building Culturally Competent Community Partnerships
  • Health Equity and Health Disparities
  • The Culture of Western Medicine
  • Providing Culturally Competent Language Access

Who We Train

Health Care Organizations

Hospital systems, clinics, Federally Qualified Health Care Centers (FQHCs), and health care or medical associations are among the health care organizations we train on a regular basis.

Human Services Organizations

We work with nonprofits that serve the health and wellness needs of their communities through either support services, education, or enabling access to health care or social services.

Government Agencies

City, state, and federal health and social services departments are strengthened and better serve their communities through our cultural competency trainings.

Educational Institutions

Schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, public health, health sciences, social work, and human services use our trainings to enhance the education of their students.

CCHCP has been an invaluable partner to the Washington Medical Commission (WMC) in helping us identify and eliminate implicit bias in our system. It has been the CCHCP staff and their exceptional support - providing time and expertise about equity and inclusion - that continues to be the greatest contribution to our success in addressing health care disparities.
